Acclaimed Australian jazz songstress Trish Delaney-Brown returns to Foundry616 with her quintet, this time to launch her new project, The Game – a live studio recording originally recorded for broadcast – now being released on ABC Jazz Digital.
“Trish Delaney-Brown is a master poet…first your heart, then your intellect, and finally your soul is caressed by her beautiful thoughts”. Thomas King RARB, USA
It’s been 10 years since Trish hung up her ‘ The Idea of North’ a cappella hat. During her 15 years with the Aria winning group Trish’s song writing was well utilized, and her efforts garnered a number of awards.
** Songwriter of the Year – Australian Songwriters Association (2003) ; ‘Best Jazz Song” -2005 CARA’s (USA); “Best jazz Fusion/Gospel Song” and “Best Gospel Lyric” – Australian Gospel Music Awards (2007); Jazz Songwriting (shortlisted) – APRA Development Awards (2009/2017).
With her latest project Trish has returned to what she loves best – a small, tight ensemble performing original material in which the voice functions both as storyteller, and as an additional instrument, wordless and blended.
“…a grown, worldly woman-voice, one of happy and sad and all the gospel colours in between.” – John Hardaker AustralianJazz.Net
Bringing her distinctive music to life are some of Sydney’s finest jazz musicians – Nic Cecire (drums); Greg Coffin (piano); Karl Dunnicliff (bass); and Jeremy Sawkins (guitar). By turns sensitive, driving, sympathetic and dynamic, the Trish Delaney-Brown Quintet promises an evening of “soaring vocals, soulful solos and evocative lyrics”.
“Trish sings the truth every time. When I need to hear beautiful singing I go and hear Trish Delaney-Brown”. – James Valentine ABC 702
The Game was recorded for broadcast on ABC Jazz and includes mostly original material by Trish: from its title track The Game – exploring the changing nature of relationships, to the wordless composition Birds – evoking synchronised patterns of starlings in flight, and a very special arrangement of Pure Imagination – the only cover on the album, and one of Trish’s childhood favourites.
Join us for this special evening of music.
